Howard Sands creates instruments in the violin family crafted in the old-world Italian style. Using many forms and tools he’s made himself, Sands builds each instrument from wood aged a minimum of ten years.
Wood
Instrument backs, ribs and scrolls are made from beautifully flamed Big Leaf Maple.
Fronts are crafted from Englemann Spruce.
All wood has been dry-aged in a protected workshop for more than ten years; wood 20-25 years old is also available.
Each instrument is finished with an oil or spirit based varnish, which protects the wood and gives the instrument a rich luster.
Options include full-size, 3/4 size, 1/2 size violins, violas and cellos.
Violas are 16″ or 16 1/2″
